He earned his medical degree with Honors at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, before completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Birman completed the Robert E. Carroll Hand & Microvascular Surgery Fellowship program at Columbia University in New York City.
